Yellowstone National Park
We arrived in Yellowstone On July 2nd. The trees surrounding Yellowstone National Park are still distinctly bare, recovering from wild fires in the 1980s. We stayed at Bridge Bay and has an acceptable camp site. The sites weren’t very secluded and really contributed to the overall feel that Yellowstone is, indeed, just a large tourist attraction. The crowds to see Old Faithful, the most famous Yellowstone Geyser, and Mammoth Hot Springs were overwhelming- elbow to elbow.
Despite their odor, the bacterial mats surrounding the geysers and hot springs create stunning and inspiring designs.
The photo to the left is of the Prismatic Hot spring, named for its glorious spectrum of colors. Prismatic Hot Spring is located at the Midway Springs. To the right, a photo of a tree growing out of the Mammoth Hot Springs.
Finally, we will keep a running tab of wildlife. Bison roam the plains of Yellowstone, dominating the horizon. Often, one can catch bison as close as ten feet, like the one imaged below. Additionally, we saw Elk, grey wolves, a grizzly bear, and a black bear.
Next stop- Bozeman and Big Sky, MT!
